1981. Jon Oliva和Criss Oliva两兄弟在佛罗里达组建了一个地下乐队Avatar 其他成员还包括 鼓手Steve Wacholz 贝司手Keith Collins

1982. Avatar为一张合集录制了两首作品 唱片公司是 Florida radio station WYNF

1983. Avatar发行了一张（EP）City Beneath The Surface 由于一些法律上的原因 Avatar将名字改成了Savatage 并且发行了他们的第一张专辑Sirens

1984. Savatage发行专辑The Dungeons Are Calling 然后与Atlantic Records签约

1985. Savatage发行他们在Atlantic的第一张专辑Power of the Night 然后乐队举行了第一次巡演

1986. 贝司手Johnny Lee Middleton 加入乐队 专辑Fight For The Rock发行 同时第一次去欧洲演出为Motorhead作暖场乐队 在一次演出当中与制作人Paul O'Neill相识
