刘雅章(Ngar-cheung LAU),1953年7月出生于香港,地球大气科学专家,现任香港中文大学(中大)环境、能源及可持续发展研究所(IEES)所长,美国地球物理流体动力学研究所首席科学家,普林斯顿大学教授。

人物生平

刘雅章教授是土生土长的香港人,1974年毕业于香港中文大学物理系。毕业后获邵逸夫奖学金负笈气象学研究重镇──美国西雅图华盛顿大学攻读大气科学博士学位。在美国研究多年,期间多次返香港中文大学讲课,刘教授始终心系香港,决定回港加入母校,为香港及中国内地贡献自己的专业。

刘雅章教授由1978年起任职于美国国家海洋大气总署地球物理流体动力学实验室,担任研究员及首席科学家,主理气候诊断项目,同期任教于普林斯顿大学,投身气象学研究几近40年。

刘教授是2007年获诺贝尔和平奖的联合国跨政府气候变化专门委员会(IPCC)的成员之一,向世界提供气候分析及预报。刘教授自委员会于1988年成立起,已参与有关的研究工作,并与全球学者共同撰写2007年及2013年发表的第四份及第五份全球气候变化研究报告。

学术研究

刘教授专注研究不同地理位置的大气及海洋现象之变化,如昼夜、冷暖时节之变化、大气及海洋环流结构、厄尔尼诺现象等,尤精于以电脑模拟气候环境条件的改变。

刘教授曾在多份科学期刊发表超过100篇论文,是ISI学术资源平台中最常被引用的研究员之一。

社会任职

刘教授曾任或现任香港天文台中国科学院、中国国家气象局北京气候中心和台湾中央研究院的科学顾问、北京大学访问教授、中大杨振宁访问学人、中大伟伦访问教授、台湾大学校外评审员,以及美国气象学会、美国国家海洋大气总署、世界气象组织的科学委员会成员。
