大堡礁岛是稀有鸟类和蜥蜴的天堂。住宿有基本的徒步旅行小屋，也有豪华的旅馆。岛上有未受人类破坏的海滩、原生灌木林,以及多种奇特的植物与鸟类。这种全无人为破坏的原始海滩在地球上已经是凤毛麟角了。原始灌木林边上的小路可通往隐密的天然温泉池和古老的贝壳杉水坝。 海拔627米的希拉基玛塔(Hirakimata),即霍布森山(Mount Hobson)以其令人难以忘怀的景观招唤着游客前来。占地285平方公里的岛屿,大部份是保护区,由环保部负责管理。 这座岛屿是徒步的好地方,同时也是潜水、钓鱼、冲浪、灌木林漫步与宿营的理想场所。每天都有固定航班的空中赏观活动。

The Great Barrier Reef stretches more than 2,000 kilometres along the Queensland coast, the east coast of Australia, from the mainland towns of Port Douglas to Bundaberg. The Great Barrier Reef system consists of more than 3000 reefs which range in size from 1 hectare to over 10,000 hectares in area.
