Two friends are about to cut one Hollywood big shot down to size。美版《大谎言家》，故事情节荒诞曲折。 一名聪明机灵的 14岁的中学生，但偏偏谎话连篇，由于一次谎言穿帮，不得不重新将老师布置的英文写作在6个小时内完成。然而在奇思妙想之后，杰森·谢泼德发现自己的课堂作业在上学的路上丢了。更是离奇的，那片颇具幻想色彩的作文居然被碰巧车载杰森的好莱坞制片人马提·沃尔夫盗用，并根据它拍成了一部卖座大片《BIG FAT LIAR》，杰森在去欣赏这一巨作的时候，发现这部片子竟然和自己的作文一摸一样。回到家中他告诉他的父母这一事实，然而父母因为他以往的恶作剧，都已经不再信任他。苦恼的杰森，异想天开的想找到马提证明自己这次并没有说谎，以换回父母重新对自己的信任。

于是趁着暑假英语补习俱乐部的空挡，杰森和好朋友凯丽来到洛杉矶好莱坞片场寻找马提。身为好莱坞最有权利的制片人之一，恶名在外的马提当然不是善主，杰森的作文给了他足够的灵感和荣誉，一旦被世人知道这部片子并不是自己所创作，功名利禄便全完了。于是，马提恶意的将作文烧掉并将杰森赶走。这惹恼了杰森，聪明的杰森刚开始还颇具孩子的信任，认为恶作剧后马提就会妥协退让，可马提为人不善，根本没有一星半点的澄清事实的意思。杰森大大失望几乎要放弃整个计划。就在这个时候，经常受马提压抑的片场工作人员，纷纷义举，杰森带领大家经过一连串精彩的斗智加上上帝的保佑，终于让这位猖狂的恶人、谎言家，在近乎发狂的自信下，喊出他剽窃了杰森的作文。而此时，六个机位都正对着他们的表演做实况转播，天下人都知道了……最后，杰森当然赢得了父母的信任。结局不可避免地再次出现欧式的感人说教。“谎话不可取”。

片中恶整马提的三个计划方案，设计的非常经典。在最后一场追逐中，利用片场的不同戏剧空间，让人过了眼瘾。其中还巧妙的利用了一个西部牛仔对峙的意境。甚是搞笑。唯一美中不足的是对杰森的作文拍摄的经典环节没有选好。对说明该片到底为什么会如此之火，不具说服力。
