早年拜师红线女，多数伙拍羽佳，以“庆红佳”的班牌做大戏，也追随红线女参加电影拍摄工作。后来与知名导演兼演员冯峰结婚并在1962年合组玫瑰电影公司。曾与陈宝珠合作《黑玫瑰》奇情警匪片，成为经典，后来至九十年代末更有人重拍《黑玫瑰与黑玫瑰》，可见这片子的地位。南红也曾为电影献唱插曲如女杀手的插曲《豆蔻春心》及《情花朵朵开》、《墙头马上－纤情》、《半掩琵琶弄莺喉》、《蔓莉，亲爱的蔓莉》的《痴女情》、《灯塔行尸》的《归心似箭》、《田园曲》的《风月无边》、《情种》的《误种情花》、《少女情》的《杜鹃红》、《假妻》的《练舞曲》、《浪子痴情》的《四季想郎》等等。
陈惠瑜曾一度加入丽的电视，大约在1977年转投无线，至1994年左右又回到亚洲电视。
