李金林,男,1963年9月出生,教授,博士生导师。1983年获中南工业大学(现中南大学)工学学士学位;1988年获武汉大学理学硕士学位; 1999年获南非金山大学理学博士学位;1999年至2002年任美国肯塔基大学应用能源研究中心博士后、研究员;2002年至今任中南民族大学教授。现为中南民族大学校长,兼任教育部高等学校化学类专业教学指导委员会委员、中国化学会理事、湖北省化学化工学会催化专业委员会主任委员、催化转化与能源材料化学教育部重点实验室和催化材料科学湖北省重点实验室主任、催化材料湖北省协同创新中心主任、《Chinese Journal of Catalysis》和《燃料化学学报》杂志编委等职,为享受国务院和湖北省政府特殊津贴专家。

2024年7月26日上午,学校在学术交流中心召开干部教师大会,宣布关于刘义、李金林同志任免职的决定:免去李金林同志中南民族大学党委副书记、常委、委员、校长职务,办理退休手续。
李金林教授主要研究方向为多相催化,围绕国家和民族地区的能源和资源转化与高效利用领域的重大需求,聚焦碳基资源转化的催化化学问题,长期致力于碳基资源催化转化技术的相关基础研究和工业化应用开发,近年来在该领域承担了包括科技部支撑计划项目、“973”计划前期研究专项、国家自然科学基金重点项目和面上项目、湖北省重大科技创新计划在内的多项国家和省部级重点项目和企业重大横向项目。李金林教授通过合成形貌和结构可控的先进纳米催化材料,结合实验和量子化学计算,研究催化剂的构效关系以及催化作用机理,取得了一系列具有创新性的科学发现,在Nature Communications、Chemical Conmmunications、ACS Catalysis、Journal of Catalysis、Applied Catalysis B: Environmental等国际专业期刊发表150余篇高水平研究论文,论文他引8000余次,获中国发明专利授权17项,获湖北省自然科学奖二等奖2项,开发的高效费-托合成催化剂已成功应用于千吨级天然气、煤炭间接液化合成油中试装置及万吨级生物质间接液化合成油商业示范装置上。2014-2019年连续六年入选爱思唯尔(Elsevier)化学工程领域中国高被引学者榜单。
